Inside the Grade 1-3 classroom we focus Excellency in the following areas:
Home Language and First Additional Language: The Language programme is integrated into all other subject areas including mathematics. Language is used across the curriculum in oral work, reading and writing. In Grade 1-3 it is through clear, focused lessons that children will be taught to be effective readers and writers. We also use drama lessons, public speaking and the Eisteddfod to enhance the learners’ skills. Further enrichment includes; spell-a-thons, reading, and writing competitions as through District.
Mathematics: In the Foundation phase children are exposed to mathematical experiences that give them many opportunities “to do, talk and record” their mathematical thinking. Lessons include practical examples using concrete objects together with practical activities and then moving to abstract work. We train the learners for mental math challenges and the results are never disappointing.
Life Skills: The Life Skills subject is central to the holistic development of learners. The Life Skills lessons are aimed at guiding and preparing learners for life and its possibilities, including equipping learners for meaningful and successful living in a rapidly changing and transforming society. Learners are then able to cope with cultural challenges, socialisation, real life situations and to enter into further learning fields such as the medical fields.
